What you need to know

A key piece is the takeoff/abnormal briefing: you must state, in specific terms, what you'll do if the powerplant fails or another malfunction occurs, factoring in runway length remaining, surface condition, and aircraft performance for that exact departure. Finally, checklist discipline and crew coordination (or self-verification if single-pilot) must be completed thoroughly but efficiently, confirming every system is within safe operating limits before you ever advance the thrust levers.
