What is dead reckoning?
Dead reckoning is navigation done purely by calculation—you use known values like airspeed, heading, time, distance, and direction, then correct for wind direction and speed to determine your heading and groundspeed. No outside landmarks or radio aids are required; it's all math and your flight computer. Think of it as flying by the numbers: "If I fly this heading at this speed for this long, accounting for wind, I'll be here."
