What is visual approach?
A visual approach is an Air Traffic Control (ATC) authorization for an aircraft on an Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) flight plan to proceed visually to the airport of intended landing. It is not an Instrument Approach Procedure (IAP)—it simply lets you fly to the runway by sight once you have the airport or preceding traffic in view. Think of it as ATC saying, "You can see the airport, so just fly to it visually."
