What is gyroscopic instruments?
Gyroscopic instruments use a fast-spinning wheel (gyroscope) to sense aircraft attitude, heading, and rate of turn, making them essential for instrument flight. The three required for instrument flying are the attitude indicator, heading indicator, and turn indicator. They are powered by a separate source—either pneumatic (a jet of air spinning the wheel) or electrical—so a single failure doesn't take out all of them. Think of it as the trio that keeps you flying straight and level when you can't see outside.
