Trough
What is trough?
A trough is an elongated area of relatively low atmospheric pressure with no rotating (cyclonic) motion. It's the opposite of a ridge, which is an elongated area of relatively high pressure. On a weather chart, think of it as a stretched-out "valley" of low pressure, often associated with clouds, unsettled weather, and wind shifts.
