Adverse Yaw

What is adverse yaw?

Adverse yaw is a tendency for the airplane's nose to swing toward the outside of a turn, opposite the direction you intend to roll. It happens because the down-deflected aileron on the rising (outside) wing creates more lift—and therefore more induced drag—holding that wing back as it comes up. Think of it as the airplane initially "yawing the wrong way" when you bank, which is exactly why you coordinate with rudder in the direction of the turn.
