P-Factor

What is P-factor?

P-factor is the uneven thrust created when an airplane is at a high angle of attack and the descending propeller blade (on the right side, for most U.S. engines) takes a bigger "bite" of air than the ascending blade. This produces more thrust on one side, yawing the aircraft to the left, so the pilot counteracts it with right rudder. Think of it as: nose-up + power = left-turning tendency that you fix with right rudder.
