What is oil temperature?
Oil temperature is a measurement of how hot the engine's lubricating oil is, displayed to the pilot on a cockpit gauge. It can be sensed and shown several ways—through a Bourdon tube mechanism (often a direct-reading gauge) or electrically—and is frequently paired with oil pressure on a combined indicator. Think of it as a health monitor for your oil: too cold and it won't lubricate well; too hot and it loses its protective qualities.
