Static Port
What is static port?
A static port is a flush opening on the aircraft's exterior, positioned so it senses the still (static) atmospheric pressure of the surrounding air without being affected by the aircraft's forward motion. This pressure feeds the altimeter, vertical speed indicator, and airspeed indicator. Think of it as the instruments' "outside reference pressure" tap—if it gets blocked or iced over, those three instruments will give false readings.
