What is warm front?
A warm front is the leading edge of an advancing mass of warm air that overtakes and replaces a colder, denser air mass. Because the warm air rides up gradually over the retreating cold air along a shallow frontal slope, lifting is slow, which typically produces widespread layered clouds and steady precipitation ahead of the front. Think of it as warm air gently climbing a long, gradual ramp over cold air—gentle slope, gradual weather.
