Class C Airspace
What is Class C airspace?
Class C airspace surrounds busier airports that have an operational control tower, radar approach control, and a certain volume of instrument-flight or passenger traffic. It normally extends from the surface to 4,000 feet above the airport elevation (charted in feet MSL), typically with a 5 nautical mile radius inner surface area. To operate here you must establish two-way radio communication with air traffic control before entering. Think of it as a "medium-traffic" airport zone—busier than Class D, but not as large as the upside-down wedding cake of Class B.
