What is significant meteorological information?
SIGMET (Significant Meteorological Information) is a weather advisory issued for hazardous conditions that are significant to all aircraft, such as severe turbulence, severe icing, dust or sand storms, or volcanic ash. Within the continental United States, SIGMETs come in two types: non-convective (for hazards like severe icing and turbulence) and convective (for thunderstorm-related hazards). Think of it as the "everyone needs to pay attention" weather warning, as opposed to an AIRMET, which covers lesser hazards.
