Wind Shear
What is wind shear?
Wind shear is a sudden change in wind speed and/or direction over a relatively short distance, either vertically or horizontally. These steep changes create churning eddies that produce turbulence—and the greater the change, the stronger the shear and turbulence. It's especially dangerous at low altitudes (low-level wind shear) because aircraft are close to the ground with little room to recover. Think of it as hitting an invisible "wall" of changing wind that can abruptly disrupt your flight path and performance.
