  • PIC authority does not override safety communication: A common distractor suggests the FO should simply defer to the Captain on all disagreements. The correct answer recognizes the FO's CRM duty to advocate assertively before deferring.
  • Conflict avoidance is not the same as conflict resolution: Suppressing a disagreement to maintain harmony (groupthink) is explicitly identified as a CRM hazard, not a safe outcome.
  • Authority gradient cuts both ways: Test questions sometimes only address the danger of a steep gradient (FO won't speak up). Remember that a flat gradient — where roles are unclear — is also dangerous.
