Why Doors Open in Flight

During Initial Climb

This is the most critical scenario because you are at low altitude with limited options. Do not attempt to close the door. Fly the airplane, maintain runway heading or a safe climb attitude, and continue climbing to a pattern altitude or a safe maneuvering altitude before you even think about the door. At a safe altitude, enter a level flight segment, stabilize the aircraft, and then address the door. If you cannot close it, return to the airport for landing.
